n 1987 the Reagan Administration abolished “The Fairness Doctrine” which had required networks to allow equal access for dissenting political views. Prior to that this had balanced the media so indoctrination of one specific ideology wouldn’t occur. Since that abolishment the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, Ingraham, Savage, the list is endless, have dominated talk radio and persuaded an entire generation of listeners as far right as can be imagined. Mostly through lies and innuendo. Working people have not had a voice that speaks to their issues until now.
The Valley Labor Report is doing the important work of preaching the gospel of solidarity through unionism in deep red Alabama, where it is needed the most. The labor movement will be rebuilt in the South and if you don’t believe that you only need to look at the jobs that have been transferred from traditional industrial States such as MI, OH, & PN to AL, GA and MS.
In order to build the labor movement back it’s going to take educating those that have been ignored by unionists for years. The Valley Labor Report is doing that very important work and not only are they educating, through the networks they’ve built they’re raising money for workers on strike, showing up and walking picket lines and spreading those workers’ stories like it’s never been done before.
If you believe in the power of the labor movement to transform America and the world it has to start locally and I implore you – please support The Valley Labor Report financially. Make a donation to their expansion fundraiser and become a monthly donor and let’s keep the work of education at the forefront of all we do. We are seeing a resurgence in unionist popularity. We need a resurgence in labor reporting that holds the powerful accountable and gives a voice to the working class.
